1. Development environment
I have posted a table in this dev blog this morning (scroll all the way down), that depicts the analysis I made (again) for my ideal development environment. Again Win XP 32 bit came out on top. I considered to move to a Linux main OS to have better access to modern applications and then use Win XP or Win 98 within a virtual machine / emulator, but instead I decided to stay on Win XP as my main OS and use a Knoppix Linux live dvd as support - only - when really necessary (to avoid problems). It just isn't the same to use the older applications and games in emulators. I want to give priority to them and use them for my daily tasks, and not just see them as museum pieces.

I believe that I can gradually iron out the secondary incompatibility issues I am facing with using Win XP. Especially now that the source code has been leaked. Win XP is written mainly in C so it is a perfect playground for me for experimentation and exercise. These days programmers even created plugins that make Win XP 32bit have access to 8GB RAM. The future of the OS looks promising.

The danger in choosing the easy way out with a Linux OS is that I would rely again on modern software, because it is more comfortable, and thus being complicit again to the endless waste of materials and energy the sector is creating in their capitalist rat race, exactly the thing I am combating.

I have to force myself to solve any issue I encounter on any older hardware I can get my hands on + the Win XP OS. Now with tinkering and using other people's stuff, and in the future by writing essential code myself.

There are several more reasons why I want to use Win XP, but I am not going to bother you with explaining all of them. If you take a look at the table I posted all the way down, you will be able to learn some of the reasons.

2. Moving
I think all program snippets I created during the past month have now been moved to this blog. The order is not exact, some dates might be wrong. I based myself on the properties of the files and there are many factors that can change that dating. The main thing is that I wrote them down and compiled and executed them manually myself, and I did so during the month of June 2025. Now that this blog is setup the future dating will be more accurate.

3. Tomorrow
Thus the setup work of this blog is done and I can continue full force with learning C tomorrow. I am planning to use materials that include many exercises.

Good night!
