Thank you for your comment. Yeah, C# became embraced by MS, they even helped creating it, I believe. But I think C# is not very relevant for the Windows XP period. And C# is not C, right. I think the two languages are quite different, despite the name, both in terms of method and philosophy.
Or, object-C / C++ and Swift / C#? Not that I assume that they are the same, I do not know but I am going to look in to these. Thank you for mentioning Swift, I was not very aware of that language. What is interesting is that Darwin OS (2000), which is macOS, was fully POSIX verified, and open source, I think?
Darwin is the open source operating system from Apple that forms the base for macOS. PureDarwin is a community project that fills in the gaps to make Darwin usable. The PureDarwin project, which aims to make Apple's open-source Darwin OS more usable, is still actively maintained as of 2024.
I have checked it out but it does not seem capable (yet, if ever) to be used as a daily driver, which is what I aim to do with any older OS. Windows XP works almost perfectly well, probably because it is less old and still has a decent user base. The dissonant I am feeling is between C and Windows XP. I seek a pure C experience and it seems I can only get that from a Unix system.
