I have pretty transformative days behind me.

I struggled for days because the laptop I am using is not well supported for Linux operating systems. I now have finally found a stable OS for my laptop: Fedora Linux Workstation 42. This OS uses Gnome as it's Desktop Environment. It limits surface customization in favor of stability. This makes the OS pretty solid and well suitable for my difficult laptop. With Ubuntu I had issues with the screen when running many applications at the same time and in Fedora Plasma I could not display the desktop anymore after simply changing the desktop theme.

The reason is not these OSes, which are very good. The reason is that the drivers used do not work optimally for my laptop model.  Drivers are the responsibility of the hardware manufacturers. Of course they focus on MS Windows as that is where the money is. Nice Linux people have created universal drivers to make scores of devices compatible with Linux OSes, but each device is a little different and some systems deviate a little too much from the majority, and then things might not work optimally. This is the case with my laptop.

I am sure I could have tweaked Ubuntu and Fedora Plasma until they would have worked better but I do not have time for that now. I need a stable environment to learn as fast as I can. Once I have deeper insight in the workings of Linux OSes it will become peanuts and much less time consuming to deal with such hiccups. You do not want to know what it can take to solve OS issues. It can take days on end to solve very small problems. I know all about it, believe me. Fedora Workstation with Gnome Desktop feels like a rock. I stick with it.

The current situation is that I study
- C (ANSI / ISO 90)
- Operating Systems (Linux)

I aim for a professional career in Operating System programming.
